networks based on open World Wide Web standards. Intranets
use the same software, network equipment, and computer
languages as the Internet, but they exist only within an
organization. Because these private networks operate behind
firewalls, corporate intranet users are able to access the
Internet while protecting corporate data from unauthorized
outsiders.
